What is hypnotherapy?

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a familiar state of consciousness, one we enter and leave often. It feels like daydreaming, a state somewhere between waking and sleeping. In this state the brainwaves slow down, giving access to the subconscious mind. The conscious mind is still aware of what is happening, but its doors are wide open to new ideas and possibilities. In this relaxed state, the subconscious mind accepts beneficial suggestions without putting up negative interference, e.g. “I could never do that” or “I’ve always been like this.”

So, you can use the power of the subconscious mind to eject repetitive patterns of thought, addiction and behaviour, traumatic memories, unhelpful beliefs, and the inner critic.

With these mental blocks down, you can also create, install and sustain new ways of being, a new reality,a fresh start.

We all have success and failure spirals in various areas of our lives; establishing these patterns depends on what we say to ourselves.

Success Spiral

Belief/Attitude – Potential – Action – Outcome – Belief/attitude

For example: If a little girl is told she is good at tennis… then she has a positive attitude and expects to be good. Then she is more confident, alert, focused …and the outcome is that she is good at tennis. This positive expectation reinforces the new belief/attitude.

This works equally if she is told she is bad at tennis.

With hypnosis it is possible to intervene at the level of the belief, and, by imagining the desired outcome, change the belief, bringing about new potential, new action and new outcome, thus reinforcing that the new belief is now true.

Belief/attitude – Potential – Action – Outcome – Belief/attitude etc

For example: If a little girl is told she is good at tennis…then she has a positive attitude and expects to be good…then she is more confident, alert, focussed …and the outcome is that she is good at tennis. This re-inforces the new belief/attitude.

Equally this works if she is told she is bad at tennis.

With hypnosis it is possible to intervene at the level of the belief, and, by imagining the desired outcome, change the belief, bringing about new potential, new action and new outcome, thus re-inforcing that the new belief is now true.

Are you submitting to someone else’s will?

NO. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnotherapist is like a driving instructor, but the subject is still driving.

All achievements are from habits. All failures are from habits.
